DrimiG4

A crazy idea. An equally crazy build.

DrimiG4 is the story of a shared build. Together with the WattsUpGarage team, we built a scooter whose key components are all listed here — from the battery cells to the display.

At its heart are the 72 V battery, the Spintend motor mounted in a custom swingarm made from 6 mm steel and the Fardriver controller . Explore the components below, then watch the build video to see how they became DrimiG4.

02 / The setup

What powers the build.

Components, exact models and direct links in one place.

72 V / 20 Ah

1440 WhBattery · Tenpower 50XG

The system is powered by a 72 V, 20 Ah batterybuilt with Tenpower 50XG cells.

These use new tabless cell technology, supporting high discharge currents and fast charging. Each cell can deliver 50 A continuous discharge currentand 140 A peak current for 3 seconds — one of the reasons this G4 is so powerful.

ANT BMS

130 A · 325 A peak

The battery is monitored by a 130 A ANT BMS with a 325 A peak current rating.

Although the BMS is rated at 130 A and the controller at 200 A, in our experience this ANT BMS handles short bursts of additional load well in this build. Its 325 A peak rating reflects that short-term headroom.

The peak current rating applies to brief bursts, not continuous operation.

Spintend 80H

17×4 · Upgraded version
The Spintend motor and custom steel swingarm

The drivetrain is built around the Spintend 80H 17×4 motorin its upgraded version. It tolerates considerably higher temperatures — useful for this torque-wound motor, which can run hot.

We currently run it at 350 A of phase current . It is still extremely powerful, while keeping unnecessary heat and the associated energy losses down. Keeping the front wheel down is still a challenge.

Fardriver 72450

CAN version · with display

The motor is paired with a Fardriver 72450 controller in the CAN version, together with its matching display.

We chose it because, paired with this motor, it delivers instant torque . For the response we wanted, a VESC-based setup would have been too slow off the line.

Zoom 4-piston

Hydraulic brake · designed for scooters
Zoom four-piston brake and original brake disc on the DrimiG4 rear wheel

The stock cable-operated brake didn't work for us, so we replaced it immediately with a Zoom four-piston hydraulic brake designed specifically for scooters. This means the hydraulic hoses stay clear of all moving parts.

The original brake discs were retained, as they proved perfectly suitable. In our experience, this setup provides enough braking force for the machine's performance.
